Chairman of the Board of Directors of Biotechnology Specialized Organized Industrial Zone (BİOSB) and Biotechnology Industrialists Association (BİYOSAD). Ercan Varlıbaş met with NCIMB Biobank officials in the United Kingdom for the ‘Biotechnology Valley’ projects, where all stakeholders of biotechnology will unite.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Biotechnology Specialized Organized Industrial Zone (BİOSB) and Biotechnology Industrialists Association (BİYOSAD). Regarding the cooperation meeting, Ercan Varlıbaş said, “NCIMB official Dr. We met with Samantha Law and her team. We talked about innovations, the structure of the biobank and the studies. “The fact that the organization is one of the Biobank examples is important in terms of its versatile work,” he said.
NCIMB official Dr. Samantha Law is Dr. He stated that they would be happy to cooperate with Varlıbaş.
About the ‘Biotechnology Valley’ project, Dr. Varlıbaş said, “Biotechnology Valley is a biotechnology base to be established in the Biotechnology Specialized Organized Industrial Zone. Here, the project aims to produce innovative products with high added value and to unite all stakeholders of the sector. It aims to host all the components you can think of, such as Start-Ups, university organizations, test certification centers. “The aim is to create a resounding region that produces innovative products with a strong R&D structure in the international arena.”
“BIOBANKS ENCOURAGE THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE INDUSTRY”
Regarding the position of biobanks in the biotechnology ecosystem, Dr. Varlıbaş said, “Just as banks are the basic elements of the economic system and its development, biobanks are one of the basic elements in the development of biotechnology. Money is stored safely in banks, financial transactions are carried out, investment and growth are encouraged, and the continuity of economic stability is aimed in these processes. In biobanks, it is essential to store plant, animal and microorganism samples without genetic modification, and studies are carried out to develop new modifications. In biobanks, cells serve humanity safely and confidentially for many years. “In this way, biobanks provide important resources to researchers for the development of the biotechnology industry, encourage the development of the industry, and provide motivation and stability in growth.”
“THE ROLE OF BIOBANKS WILL INCREASE FURTHER”
Dr. stated that biobanks were effective in determining public health research and health policies in the century known as the ‘Genome Age’. Varlıbaş said, “With biotechnological developments, the role of biobanks will increase in the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases, in the determination of disease resistance, in the production of biotechnological products such as drug development, and in the further development of personal medicine with the increase in genetic information.”
